Literature Text

As the storm approaches, the skies dim and an ominous mood settles. When it arrives, the ground is littered with darker wet dots with space in-between, as the rain has not intensified yet. Like the history of the world's population, though, it exponentially surges at one point, pouring down the ocean from the sky. It floods the streets, the water leveling to the curbs and everything becoming soaked.

The rain pierces streams running down the sides of the roads and hits the cement hard. Water rushes everywhere, but eventually works its way downward, seeping into the earth. Since the droplets hit the tops of houses continuously, it creates the illusion that the roof is smoking. Now, the sky is one solid color - a light gray that seems to envelop the world. Impressions of rings form on the glass of the front car window, as the windshield wipers shuffle the water around. Some of the water is then pushed back to the passenger windows, creating a sort of river that runs and distorts the view. Above, the soft low sound of impacting rain gives off a partially soothing feeling, but is also a little melancholy. People run with objects covering their heads, but it is practically pointless because they can not hide. From rivers to ponds to roses, the man watching them all is crying.

Anything alive or not is in the reign of the water from the skies now, consumed in a torrential and relentless world. Tears from the angels of heaven have come down upon us and our actions, falling down all the way to our mortal home. We are now washed from our sins, and after the rain clears, we are free and refreshed. New things can grow as a new sun peeks through, shining past the dark clouds. All the puddles clear gradually, as we learn to adapt and be independent.
"The way I see it, if you want the rainbow, you have to put up with the rain." -Dolly Parton
Obviously, I'm not the only one who writes about rain, but it is nice, so I decided to write something about it. Also, this descriptive form of writing is interesting, as you have to choose your words carefully, so I like experimenting with it. Thanks for reading! I know this piece may feel unorganized, which is sort of is, but still. If you caught the references, then good for you (:

A moving piece, very visually stimulating. I must say, I think we both know who I thought of when I read the title.
